Professor Lee Dong-wook of JNU's Department of Civil Engineering has been recommissioned as a member of the Central Urban Planning Committee under Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The Committee is the highest-level body overseeing land planning and development. It plays a critical role in deliberating on metropolitan city planning, urban and county planning, and land transaction permit areas. Notably, it reviews decisions related to the designation and cancellation of development-restricted zones (commonly referred to as the Green Belt), the establishment of national industrial complexes, and housing site development projects led by LH.
Professor Lee also serves on several other committees, including the Central Construction Technology Review Committee, the Central Industrial Complex Planning Review Committee, the Construction Accident Investigation Committee, and the Central Underground Accident Investigation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In addition, he actively participates in various central and regional committees as an urban planning committee member, a landscape committee member, and a disaster impact assessment review committee member on Jeju Island. He is particularly involved in volunteer activities, such as mediating community disputes and providing advice on disaster prevention (e.g., disaster reduction facilities) and environmental issues (e.g., noise and vibration).
Professor Lee’s reappointment to the Central Urban Planning Committee marks a first for Jeju. His new term will run through the end of 2026.
