Jeju National University Museum ‘s traditional cultural program for children is going viral amid the COVID-19 pandemic with the decreasing opportunities for children to play outdoors.

The university museum has run the Traditional Activity Program for Children since June this year.

The extracurricular program was especially designed to include differently abled children, allowing them to enjoy playing traditional games, cooking, and creating artefacts with their parents.

In August, a collaborative bazaar was held with a social cooperative consisting of the parents of children with development disorders.

The museum also runs a creative course on the local traditional culture in partnership with the Oedo Multipurpose Cultural Center.

So far, the Traditional Activity Program for Children has run 25 courses and 15 more will be offered.

Oh Sang-hak, director of the museum, explained the program was planned to offer socially excluded children in the local community, especially in terms of cultural activities. The museum will take one step closer to the community members based on a continued communication and collaboration, he added.
