Basic science research center holds special course for citizens

Jeju National University’s Research Institute for Basic Science held a special lecture program for its Jeju Citizen into Science (CIS) Course, the institute announced on Thursday (Oct. 7).
The program invited Kang Do-hyung, director of the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology Jeju Center, to give a lecture on the climate issues caused due to greenhouse gases by relating the topic to marine algae.
Dubbed “The Citizens’ College”, the Jeju CIS Course is the first non-degree science education program held in Jeju Province.
The course is aimed at inviting both researchers and ordinary citizens to develop, plan, and implement research projects on Jeju Island’s natural phenomena.
The next round of its special lecture will be offered on Friday (Oct. 15) by Kim Jin-han, an official of the National Institute of Biological Resources, who will speak about ‘BioBlitz’.
