Marine life scientists awarded academic and poster prizes

A Jeju National University (JNU) research team led by Park Sang-yul, professor in the university’s Department of Marine Life Science, has been announced as the winner of the Korea Society of Environmental Biology (KSEB) conference. KSEB recently held the conference marking the 40th anniversary of its founding.
The JNU researchers have participated in different research projects as members of the university’s state-funded Brain Korea 21 project center on marine life sciences.
The KSEB conference selected Park, the leading researcher, to present the society’s academic prize that is given to a member whose paper gained domestic and international recognition.
Heo Ye-jin, a graduate member of Park’s research team, won the best poster prize by presenting the latest research outcomes concerning the ulvaceae breeds found in the near seas of Jeju Island.
The other researcher named Kim Tae-hyeon also received the encouragement prize for his poster on the use of drones for detecting seagrass growth areas.
