Jeju National University’s (President Song, Seok-eon) Regional Leading Universities Development Group (Group Leader Lee, Dong-cheol) announced on Nov. 9th the execution of ‘GREAT Munhwaro, Jejuro,’ for 20 students from Nov. 3rd to 5th in cooperation with Jeju City’s Cultural City Center.

In the program, students were given opportunities to recognize and suggest plans to conserve and revitalize cultures of Jeju after visiting some of excellent cases in Gyeonsangnam-do Province, where cultural resources have been exquisitely utilized.

Participants took tours around Kangkangee Village located at the Cultural City Center in Yeongdo-gu, Busan as well as in Sooyoung-gu, and Gimhae City to broaden their experience.

A group official said, “Though we ran the program in a tight schedule, the experience will be of help to the students in understanding the perspectives on Jeju’s culture and urban regeneration.”

The official also said, “We are delighted that, as citizens of Jeju, which aims to become one of Korea’s designated Cultural City, we, including the students, were able to exchange our works together. Our Group further hopes to operate more efficient programs through the cooperation between the civil, government, and academic bodies so that more regional talents can be nurtured.”

Meanwhile, Jeju City submitted an application for the designation of itself as Cultural City. The result will be announced at the end of December. Once designated, the city will be provided with KRW 20 billion for the next 5 years.
