JNU team Brachio awarded Encouragement Prize at K-Hackathon

Jeju National University’s computer programming team “Brachio” has been awarded the Encouragement Prize at the 9th K-Hackathon on Friday (Nov. 12).
The K-Hackathon is the nation’s largest mobile app development contest for undergraduate entries. The event is hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by SW Korea.
Of the total 773 team entries, Brachio consisting of JNU students (Yang Ji-woong, Yeom Sang-gwon, and Yang Sang-woo) was included on the list of winners.
During the main contest, 42 teams competed to win 18 entries for the final round, where 16 of them were given different prizes.
Brachio is the only Jeju-based team among the winners of the Jeju regional contest which made it to the final round.
The team developed “Mitamin,” a mobile app that shows the overlapping nutrients in nutritional supplements. The user can identify the total composite of the supplements he or she takes, by simply saving the names of those supplements on the app.
“Mitamin” also visualizes the recommended and the maximum amounts for Koreans announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, while notifying the user of the statistical data and the time with the alarm clock function.
As an increasing number of consumers take in two or more health supplements recently, the app is expected to help users prevent the excess intake of those supplements and the resulting side effects.
