JNU’s Intellectual Property Education Leading University Group (Group Leader Kim, In-jung, Professor of Biomaterials major), Seogwipo Industry Science High School (President Kim, Soo-hwan), the students and faculty of JNU Biomaterials major, and Research Institute for Subtropical Agriculture and Animal Biotechnology jointly held ‘Mentor Camp for Invention and Venture’ at Value Hotel Seogwipo JS from Nov. 12th to 13th.

In the camp, students and teachers of Seogwipo Industry Science High and the students and faculty of JNU teamed up to create ideas, investigate prior arts, consult their ideas, and give presentations so that they would have the chances to diagnose, improve and commercialize ideas.

During the event, Han, Yoo-sin, who owns a TRIZ Level 4 license and CEO of Handioti, co., ltd., gave a special lecture on IP. The lecture was to educate how to define problems and derive innovative ideas to resolve with regard to various principles of invention.

Also, the law of separation was introduced to solve problems in a practice session.

There were five teams who progressed through the market research, prior arts investigation, and developing trademarks and designs. The progress was followed by venture planning, commercialization, funding plan, and a review on the idea.

Each team consisted of five high school students, one university student with IP education, one professor, and one high school teacher. As instructing professors, Kim, In-jung, Lee Gwang-man (Electrical Engineering), Choi, Min-joo (College of Medicine), Han, In-deok (Architectural Engineering), Lee, Eun-joo (Department of Fashion and Textiles), and Kim, Beom-yong (IP Education Center) took their parts.

Ko, Jeong-gwon and Song, Yoo-min from Biomaterials major, Song, Dong-gook from Biotechnology, and Han, Soo-bin and Lim, Jin-ah from Electrical Engineering took part as university student mentors. Teacher mentors from Seogwipo Industry Science High School were Kim, Eun-bi, Lee, Gwang-soo, Son, Seung-hwan, Kang, In-gyeong, and Choi, In-gwang.

Through the camp, the five student teams of Seogwipo Industry Science High School were able to fill in five patent applications. They were diagnosed with their plans to commercialize ideas, which can also be utilized after their graduation.

President Kim, Soo-hwan of Seogwipo Industry Science High School said, “Our society grows through new invention and findings. It is necessary to bring new things based on what we achieved in the past. I am sure that the camp would be of great help in enhancing our students’ capabilities.”

Group Leader Kim, In-jung said, “The program first began in 2018 and have since brought about mutually beneficial influence for both high school participants and university students. Here, we were able to confirm each year the participants were clearly enhancing. I will do my best to foster the program further so that it helps students in their career paths.”
