Jeju National University’s National University Promotion Center will work to solve the issue of selling potatoes with a less commercial value.

The center will employ its available resources to resolve the issue through the Living Lab Campus project, which was launched in September to provide solutions to local social and industrial issues.

Jeju is the nation’s only region where potatoes can be raised and harvested twice a year. The early ripen potatoes produced in December are a well-known specialty of Gujwa Village.

However, farmers often experience difficulties treating potatoes with a less commercial value. To solve the issue, Jeju National University launched the Living Lab Campus project.

Living Lab is a term for a living laboratory in the daily lives. The project involves experiments where residents suffering from different problems actively come up with their own solutions on the ground.

For the latest issue, the university formed a group of people who are from on and off the campus. The team has worked with an agricultural corporation based in Gujwa to popularize the social issue regarding excessive produce.

As a result, the team succeeded in opening a distribution channel on an online funding platform on Nov. 15. Through the project, the team will work to raise public awareness on the issue of food that is discarded because of having a less commercial value.
