The Central Steering Committee including Jeju National University’s Student Council (President Hyeon, Gyeong-jun) held a press conference at JNU on Nov. 26 to urge the swift pass of the revised bill for Jeju 4.3 Special Act.

The committee said, “Jeju 4.3 is a history that should be remember not only by the people of Jeju but also the entire Korean people. It is a tragedy where the state violently murdered our neighbors and ancestors. Accepting this seriously and actively responding are to remember and not repeat the same mistake.”

The argument continued, “Jeju 4.3 will not be forgotten in history. We, who are the descendants and who transmit, will take actions where we can in resolving the bitterness and pain of the victims. The revised bill is significant in that it includes efforts to do so for the victims and the bereaved families.”

The committee urged, “The student council, council members, club confederations, student bodies of college and department levels all urge, as descendants of Jeju 4.3 victims, for the passing of the revised Jeju 4.3 Special Act within the year. We call out to the National Assembly.”
