2021 Samdasoo-JNU Big Data Contest Awards Ceremony held

JNU (President Song, Seok-eon) held ‘2021 Samdasoo-JNU Big Data Contest Awards Ceremony,’ as a part of the University Innovation Support Plan on Nov. 29.
Grand Prize was awarded by team ‘Jeju Data Log (Jedero)’ who suggested ‘Optimal selection of JPDC Happiness Town.’ The team was granted with President’s Award and KRW 1 million.
Best Prize was given to team ‘MORE’ who analyzed ‘COVID Influence in Jeju using Credit Card Usage Data.’ The team won JDC President’s Award and KRW 500 thousand.
Excellency Prizes were given to three teams, ‘Thinkfarm,’ ‘Carrotpie,’ and ‘Princesses.’ They respectively won the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation Director’s Award and KRW 300 thousand.
The contest was propelled by the participation of JDC in a demand survey which was conducted for the cooperation between JNU and relevant companies in June. With industry-academic customized education in liaison with region’s public agencies and the big data contest as the aim, student participation was announced in August, drawing 25 students from 10 teams. For three months, the students went through big data practicing. Five teams were finalized in the end.
For those who are deemed excellent in this contest, their plan for start-up and commercialization will be funded, once JDC reviews and approves (two teams, and KRW 5 million for each team). This will make a fine set of examples for the region’s renowned case of cooperation between university and industry.
President Song, Seok-eon of JNU said, “I expect students learned not only about big data, but also about our region’s public agencies throughout this contest. There will be more such opportunities constantly that JNU provides in the future.”
