Prof. Bae Ji-young’s project selected as KFDA research assignment

Jeju National University announced on Dec. 2 that Professor Bae, Ji-young of the College of Pharmacy was selected as the ‘leading researcher for 2022 joint research and development project’ of the Korea Food and Drug Administration.
This makes JNU College of Pharmacy as a research partner of Jeju National Center for the Management of Herb Medicine Resources, which is to be completed on Dec. 16. The center is dedicated to secure and conserve the biodiversity according to taking effect of Nagoya Protocol and climate change.
Professor Bae said, “The project will take a vital role in preparing the domestication of subtropical herbal resources, which we are currently depending on imports.”
The ‘study on securing subtropical herbal resources and finding alternative herb medicines’ will be funded with KRW 1.5 billion for three years. With the KFDA as the internally performing institute, and JNU as the first and organizing entity, Kangwon National University will also take part in this so prepare a base for corresponding to the Nagoya Protocol by test-cultivating alternative herbs, securing and conserving subtropical herbal medicines.
