Seminar on characteristics and use of Jeju’s groundwater held

Jeju National University’s Basic Science Research Institute and the Jeju Research Institute’s Jeju Groundwater Research Center met for academic exchanges on Thursday (Dec. 2).

The two institutes held a joint seminar to discuss latest research projects with a focus on the characteristics and use of groundwater found on and around the volcanic island of Jeju.

During the seminar, the participants shared ideas on establishing a system for groundwater circulation and improving the current state for the effective use and management of Jeju groundwater. Research outcomes were also shared to consider joint research projects on the impact of nutritive salts on the island’s littoral environment and groundwater pollution.

In December 2020, the two institutes signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for reinvigorating research on the basic sciences to create a local groundwater management system and related policies.

Under the MOU, academic events will continue to be organized on a regular basis.
