Public lecture on biodiversity in Northeast Asia held

Jeju National University’s Research Institute for Basic Science (JNU-RIBC) held the 8th round of its public lecture series at Halla Library.

For the lecture, the JNU-RIBC invited Hyeon Jin-oh, director of the Northeast Asia Biodiversity Institute, on Tuesday (Dec. 15) and organized the event on a hybrid format, offering the lecture both online and offline.

Hyeon’s lecture featured the topic of “Beautiful and Rare Plants on Jeju Island”. Specifically, he introduced to the audience the biodiversity issues of Jeju Province, focusing on the province’s current biodiversity situations, cause of reduction in biodiversity, designation/cancellation of nationally managed endangered species, measures to conserve endangered plants, and plants in need of special protection.

The audience included forest commentators, natural environment commentators, and researchers of local biological resources.

JNU-RIBC’s public lecture series are offered to create a basic science-friendly atmosphere and create values in the local community for the purpose of research on the biosphere and clean environment of Jeju Island.

The public lectures series will continue to be organized jointly with Halla Library in the coming year.
