The National Assembly passed the bill on allocating the budget of 12.68 billion won to the remodeling and expansion of Jeju National University’s Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.

The scheduled project aims to establish a five-story Veterinary Medical Center for animals, including a basement floor, with an area of 4,590㎡. After completing the designing process next year, the construction will begin in 2023 and continue until the end of 2024.

The construction of the current Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (1,980㎡, a two-story building) started in 1991 and was completed in 1995.

Over the past 30 years, the university has faced an increasing demand for advanced teaching and treatment facilities as the number of pet owners has gradually increased. The existing hospital has experienced the deterioration of its facilities and insufficient collaboration with other veterinary clinics on the Korean mainland.

After learning the passage of the budget bill, Song Seok-eon, president of Jeju National University, stated that the planned expansion will help the veterinary hospital be further recognized in Korea.

Yoon Yeong-min, director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, also expected that the project will contribute to advancing the university’s education of veterinary experts.
