JNU Prof. Kim Sang-jae, Presidential Award in "2025 Science Day"

-Strengthening the competitiveness of a National Flagship University in Science & Technology-

Professor Kim Sang-jae of the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering at Jeju National University (JNU) has been honored with the Presidential Award at the 58th Science Day 2025 for his outstanding contributions to the advancement of science and technology. He currently serves as the Director of the JNU Green Hydrogen Leading Research Center and Dean of the College of Engineering at JNU (President Kim Eel-hwan).

Prof. Kim has spearheaded eco-friendly energy research through an interdisciplinary approach, even under challenging regional research conditions. He is widely acclaimed for his academic impact, having published over 130 papers in the top 10% of journals in his field, with 110 of those achieving a citation index of 10 or higher, and an H-index of 85 (based on Google Scholar).

In addition, Prof. Kim has successfully secured major national R&D projects, including the Basic Laboratory Project (2018), the Medium-sized Research Support Project II (2019), the BK21 Jeju Energy New Industry Education Research Group (2021), and the RLRC Green Hydrogen Leading Research Center (2024). These initiatives have significantly contributed to enhancing research infrastructure at regional universities and building a solid research foundation focused on the energy industry.

As a full-time member of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Prof. Kim has established a new energy industry research institute tailored to the characteristics of the region. He has also been deeply committed to cultivating professional talent and strengthening national competitiveness in science and technology.

His dedicated efforts have been recognized as pivotal to the sustainable development of local science and technology, as well as to elevating the reputation of JNU.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Kim stated, “We will continue striving to lay the foundation for a sustainable community by developing eco-friendly hydrogen engines and seawater electrolysis-based green hydrogen technology, tailored to regional characteristics and needs.”
