The JNU Traditional Game Research Team at the Marine Sports Center (Director: Prof. Seo Tae-beom) hosted a special experience booth to share the joy of traditional Korean games at the 1st Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Sports Festival for the Disabled, held on April 1.

The team organized a Traditional Game Championship, introducing four traditional games: gongginori, bisachigi, jegichagi, and tuhonori. In addition, the booth allowed visitors to experience the games firsthand. Participants included not only individuals with disabilities, but also citizens of all ages and backgrounds, including family members, guardians, and volunteers.

The research team noted that the event reaffirmed the inclusive nature of traditional Korean games, demonstrating that anyone can participate, regardless of physical ability. They reflected on the meaningful moments shared by participants, who experienced a sense of accomplishment while enjoying the challenge in their own ways. The atmosphere was filled with warmth, support, and encouragement from those around them.

A team official stated, “Traditional Korean games are a valuable part of our cultural heritage that can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of physical differences.” They added, “We will continue to promote traditional game activities for both people with and without disabilities.”
