Colloquium organized by JNU Research Center on the Commons and Sustainable Society
Jeju National University’s Research Center on the Commons and Sustainable Society signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the nation’s resident autonomy institutes at the National Assembly on Dec. 28.
The center agreed with the Korea Resident Autonomy Center and the Local Social History Institute, respectively.
The JNU center was selected for the project to be funded by the National Research Foundation’s Humanities and Social Research Institute Support Program in September 2021. It has since conducted research on promoting balanced regional development and strengthening resident autonomy by utilizing the commons.
As part of the efforts to fulfill the agreement, the center held a colloquium on the issues and challenges of the Framework Act on Resident Autonomy at the National Assembly on the same day.
During the event, participants reviewed the history of Jeju’s resident autonomy movements and the resident-led use of the commons. In doing so, the issues of the Framework Act on Resident Autonomy were discussed, which can be utilized to promote development from within the local community. |
