Jeju National University signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Forest Ecosystem Service Center Friday (Dec. 17).

The purpose of the MOU is to develop projects based on industry-academic cooperation so that the university and the forestry data provider parties can actively respond to the great shift of digitization.

Under the MOU, the two parties agreed to cooperate in developing a Jeju-type model for big data-based industry-academic cooperation projects, running the Living Lab for forest ecosystem services, and developing data for basic research on tourist policy development and policy proposals, and training experts in the big data industry.

The Living Lab, one of the key contents of the MOU, is a field-centered problem-solving methodology designed for technological or social innovation. The Living Lab for forest ecosystem services aims to practically link the Forest Ecosystem Service Center to major tourism policies of Jeju Island.

The signing ceremony was attended by Data Science Lab Corp. (the organizer of the Forest Ecosystem Service Center), Jeju National University, Jeju Tourism Organization, and the Jeju Fire Department. After the ceremony, discussions were held focusing on developing a Jeju-type model for big data-based industry-academic cooperation projects.
