Spring is just around the corner, so watch out cedar pollen, Environment Health Center warns

The JNU School of Medicine Environmental Health Center (Hong Sung Cheol, Director) issued a health warning about the pollen grains of Japanese cedar trees, as spring is just around the corner.

The cedar pollen can make havoc with your health by causing a number of allergic reactions. A rice-grain size cedar flower produces about 13,000 pollen grains, and a 20-cm branch of the spring tree accounts for over one million pollen grains airborne.

The allergy causing pollen gets released airborne starting mid February until early April. The center also advises that you avoid spring outdoor activities, especially during 10 a.m. ~ 2 p.m., unless an effective air mask is worn.
