President Huh Hyang Jin sees JNU becoming Asia's prestige

President announces 10 core projects at second term press conference



At a press conference, President Huh Hyang Jin sketched his plans to implement the JNU Projects to accomplish his second term mission to put JNU on Asia's prestigious and globally leading institutions list. In his mission statement, President Huh emphasized the importance of communication and participation, diversity and self-control, principle and trust, and cooperation and mutual reliance.

At the press conference held last Monday (March 10, 2014), he drew a parallel line between the internationalizing city of Jeju and the globalizing institution of Jeju National University. President Huh stressed overcoming JNU's regional disadvantages and must meet the challenges of competition in achieving JNU's mission to put itself on the list of Asia's prestigious universities.

Through implementation of the JNU Projects, President Huh sees JNU as △ emphasizing education of cultivated and creative persons △strong research university contributing to the nation's advancement △ free exchange of personnel and ideas as a globally leading university and △ playing a leading role in developing the regional society.

In implementing the above measures, rectifying the existing shortcomings and introducing reforms to make the system more competitive are called for; rational competition and merit-based reward system will be introduced and strengthened.

In concluding the presidential press conference, President Huh said that efforts would not be spared in accomplishing the stated goals of the JNU projects, especially the 10 core projects during his second term.
