9th President Huh Hyang Jin pledges to develop JNU as Asia's prestigious university



The 9th JNU President Huh Hyang Jin resumed his second 4-year term at an inauguration ceremony in Ara Muse Hall earlier today (March 7, 2014).

President Huh pledged to elevate the university’s status to Asia’s prestigious institution through effective communication with faculty and staff, focus on strengths, and trust and cooperation among the university community.

Toward the staged goals, President Huh proposed to implement three major programs of Jump, New and Unity (for JNU).

Specifically, he emphasized raising the employment rate of graduating students to 60%, comparable to a top rate among the major public institutions in Korea, and scholarship stipend per student from 2 to 3 million won.



In addition, he plans to increase the foreign student enrollment from the current level of 600 to 1,000 and establish a 150 billion won development fund.

He also commented that funding for research will be increased to 75 billion won per year while encouraging the faculty to put out more scholarly publications.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, faculty and students, and the president inaugurated was congratulated by Governor Woo Keun Min of Jeju Provincial Government, President Robert Underwood of Guam University of US, and others.
