No PC's; just connect to internet in Cloud Computing System installed at JNU

The JNU Telecommunication Center (Lee Sang Joon, Director) no longer has desk tops in its IT laboratory!

The telecommunication center installed a cutting edge technology system "Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)" which allows one to perform tasks stored on internet without an individual PC anytime and anywhere. The latest facility introduced at the center began providing such "cloud computing" services earlier this week.

Through this service, data storage, networking, contents use, and many other IT related tasks can be carried out all at once. As part of the green campus policy, the first of a VDI system based IT laboratory has been successfully established last Monday (April 7, 2014).

As the result of continuing efforts, VDI has been introduced to two IT laboratories and 100 PC equivalent environments for faculty research and teaching related tasks.

The VDI system also partially circumvents problems resulting from the termination of Windows XP service.

Illegal use of software can be stopped, and personnel cost and managerial efficiency are also anticipated from the introduction of VDI system. Many other benefits of the VDI system are expected.

Jeju National University annually plans to expand the VDI system to all school data centers until a highly efficient smart campus environment is established through the cloud computing system.
