Prof. Hyun Jin Won elucidates epigenetic mechanism of antibody resistance

Professor Hyun Jin Won and her co-workers of the JNU School of Medicine announced the elucidation of how resistance to the anti-cancer antibody 5-fluorouracil develops in colon cancer cells. The JNU Medical School research team elucidated the mechanism of the antibody resistance based on the epigenetic variation of antioxidant enzymes.

Results of the team’s study appeared in the international journal "Cell Death & Disease" (journal impact factor ~ 6.044) published by the Nature Publishing Group last week (April 17, 2014).

The first author Dr. Kang Kyung Ah (photo right) works as a research fellow at the university, whereas her mentor Professor Hyun is a research director with the JNU Hospital Jeju Regional Cancer Center. She directs her research on the cell death processes under BK21 program.
