Jeju National University’s National University Development Program held Carbon Free Campus (CFC), a hackathon event involving students and local community members Dec. 22.

The program was designed jointly by the university’s National University Development Program and the Jeju Green Environment Support Center to suggest ideas for creating a carbon-free campus in line with the national Long-Term Low Carbon Development Strategy 2050 and Jeju Province’s Carbon Free Island 2030 initiatives.

A total of 13 teams (including individuals) participated in the program, giving presentations on various ideas such as providing an electric vehicle charger matching service, creating a teachers’ complex applying zero-energy architectural methods, introducing a vehicular carbon tax, and opening a curriculum on environmental education.

The consultants, consisting of eight experts from industry, academia, and private institutions, consulted on supplementary matters based on the evaluation of the proposed ideas.

The school’s National University Development Program will confirm the final results by Dec. 28 for a written review. Excellent ideas will be announced on the Jeju National University website on Dec. 31.
