Jeju Forum JNU Session heard President Huh’s proposal for borderless intellectual networking

JNU President Huh Hyang Jin proposed that history reassessment and the pursuit of mutual understanding must underscore the search for long-term resolution of East Asian conflicts through university education.

At the “Peace and Prosperity” JNU session of Jeju Forum held in Haevich Hotel and Resort yesterday (May 28, 2014), President Huh delivered a keynote speech making proposal that higher education and intellectual resources of the universities be in the foundation for resolving East Asian conflicts often incited by national political leaders’ exclusionist interests.

President Huh argued that unlike national governments the universities provide intellects and common values essential for exploring the ways to iron out the difficulties involved in the national conflicts beyond the border interests of East Asian nations.

Universities can play at least three roles in reducing the national conflicts of East Asia.

First, the universities in the East Asian nations can establish and expand the framework of discussion to reduce the conflicts and advocate peace for the region.

Second, the universities can emphasize peace-directed education to promote historical reconciliation through multi-faceted interpersonal exchanges.

Third, vision of “One Asia” in peace and prosperity can be established through university education.

Jeju National University participated in another session entitled “Global education and Jeju” at Jeu Forum 2014.
