Professor Lee Hyo Yeon wins “Jookyo Scholarly Prize” in plant biotechnology

Jeju National University announced today (October 30, 2014) that Professor Lee Hyo Yeon of the JNU Faculty of Biotechnology won this year’s Jookyo Scholarly Prize administered by the Korean Society for Plant Biotechnology.

The Jookyo Scholarly Prize was established in honor of the late Dr. Han Chang Yeol, prominent researcher in plant biotechnology, for recognizing the outstanding achievements in plant biotechnology. The prize is named after Dr. Han’s pen name.

Professor Lee made numerous contributions to the field of plant biotechnology as well as services to the society on the editorial board and other important committees.

He currently directs the plant biotechnology research supported by the Ministry of Education and serves as the director of Subtropical Horticultural Research Institute.

Professor Lee published over 60 original research papers in SCI-registered periodicals and presented more than 120 contributed papers at national and international conferences. He has 34 Korean and international patents to his credit.

His work on the environmental risk assessment of genetically modified herbicide resistant zoysiagrass primarily led to his earning of the Jookyo prize, which will be presented to him at an award ceremony at the society’s fall meeting in Daegu on October 31, 2014.
