Farewell ceremony held for 10th JNU president

Jeju National University (JNU) held the farewell ceremony for Song Seok-eon, who recently completed his four-year tenure as the university’s 10th president.
In his farewell speech, Song recalled that the memories of the past four years were the most precious and beautiful times in his life. “I deeply appreciate your sincerity and passion for repaying your hard work and dedication to create a university we have dreamed of in our path toward the development of our university,” he said.
He expressed expectations for the new president, saying that a new organization is to build a new power, which is a driving force to usher in a new future. “If the threads are unraveled one by one, the current crisis will turn into a good opportunity for all of us to grow and develop,” he added. He also pledged, “I will return to my department as a professor after finishing my term as president, but I will not stop cheering and making efforts for the development of JNU and a balanced regional and national growth.”
JNU presented a plaque of merit, which reads “During his tenure as the 10th president, Dr. Song Seok-eon escalated the status of our university to a higher level and contributed greatly to its development under the banner of ”The university faithful to the basics and the university prepared for the future.“
Song joined JNU in 1995 and served as the head of the Law and Policy Research Institute, the dean of the School of Law, the chairman of the JNU Board of the Trustees, and the chairman of the JNU Professors Association. During his tenure as president, he chaired the Korea National University 10, the council of Korea’s national universities which strives for the development of the nation’s tertiary education.
