Paper on "Mystery Roads of Mt. Halla" getting attention
Professors Hyun Dong Gurl (photo left), Shin Ae Kyung (photo center) and Kim Doo Chul of the JNU College of Education and College of Natural Science Department of Physics (Prof. Kim), respectively, published a co-authored paper on the study of mystery roads in Mt. Halla in the December 2014 issue of "New Physics", an official publication of Korean Physical Society. The issue's front cover featured the paper by the JNU researchers.
The JNU paper was one of the publications to commemorate the semi-centennial anniversary of the KPS' "New Physics". It's been pointed out that the article likely attracts interests of both physicist and non-expert readers in the physical nature of the mystery roads" which also lure many tourists to Jeju Island.
The JNU researchers rigorously showed that the so-called mystery roads are not really mysterious, but they can be explained by optical illusion reflected by the stationary objects surrounding each of the roads.
