Herbicide-resistant turf grass developed by Prof. Lee Hyo-Yeon team gets international attention

Director and Professor of Jeju National University Subtropical Horticulture Research Institute and his team of researchers published a comprehensive paper reporting on herbicide-tolerant turf grass (Zoysia japonica) and other varieties.

The paper by Professor Lee and his coworkers including Drs. Song In-Ja, Bae Tae Woong, and Song Pill-Soon is entitled “Transgenic herbicide-resistant turgrasses” and appeared in the plant biotechnology series InTech edited by A J Price (USDA). The herbicide-resistant turf grasses were developed through past ten years of work at Jeju National University, now getting international recognition.

Their publication has recorded 1,000 downloads during the last year and a half, with 55% of the article accesses coming from USA followed by Brazil, India, UK and Korea.

Dr. AJ Price, Editor of 'In Tech' series, sent a congratulatory message to the authors for their paper posting the 1,000 access records since its publication in 2013.

The paper reviews the mechanisms of herbicide actions, the development of herbicide-resistant turf grasses and their environmental risk assessment and potential economic impacts.
