“Donation Angel” Kwon Oh-rok contributes 100 mn won to JNU

Kwon Oh-rok, 87, the father of Kwon Woong, a professor of physical education at Jeju National University (JNU), visited JNU and contributed 100 million won to the university’s development funds.
Kwon Oh-rok is dubbed a “donation angel” because he has provided a total of 2.2 billion won to where help is needed, such as the Korean Red Cross, the Fruit of Love, and the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, the Purme Foundation, and other walks of society.
“Since my son was appointed as a professor at JNU in 2020, I have become very interested in the university and wanted to join in its development,” Kwon said.
He also said, “In life, the wisdom of feeling and learning is important, and I hope this donation will serve as an opportunity to share what people have with their family members and many others.”
He worked for 34 years as a Seoul metropolitan government official and retired in June 1996 after serving as the head of the Eunpyeong-gu District Office. While working as a civil servant, he made many achievements, such as receiving the Order of Nokjo Geunjeong and the Order of Hongjo Geunjeong.
In March last year, he received national merit by donating 500 million won to those suffering from COVID-19.
