JNU to receive state funds for agricultural education in 2022
Jeju National University’s Future Agricultural Management Training Project Team has been selected for the 2022 Competency-building Support Project for Agricultural Schools by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. With the designation, the team will receive financial support for 340 million won over the next three years.
The Competency-building Support Project for Agricultural Schools aims to foster young farmers and expand opportunities for students to enter the agricultural industries. Ten universities have been selected through public recruitment of universities with agricultural departments nationwide. JNU has implemented the project for 17 consecutive years since 2005, being selected as the most prominent educational institute between 2017 and 2020.
The university’s Future Agricultural Management Training Project Team runs programs for students in the departments of plant resources and environment, horticultural science, and applied economics. The programs provide phased capacity-building courses for young farmers and smart agricultural professionals. The courses are titled ▲ Smart farm education ▲ Job/Start-up education and club Activities ▲ Job/Start-up mind-up ▲ Career exploration and agricultural start-up items ▲ On/Off-campus field training ▲ Agricultural professional training and ▲ Agricultural professional training.
In addition, the project team runs agro-industrial specialist training courses, focusing on HACCP, FSSC/ISO 22000, GLOBALG.A.P., GAP, agro-product quality control, and distribution managers.
Director Kim Dong-soon of the project team (Professor of Plant Resources and Environment) said, “Agriculture is at the crossroads of innovation as it is fused with high-tech sciences. We will cultivate local talents for agricultural innovation with professional management skills and ICT capabilities.”
