노후 실습선 '아라호' 대체할 새 선박 건조
22-year old training ship "Ara Ho" to be replaced

A brand new training ship (2000 ton) to be built by 2018 will replace the current, 22-year old training ship (990 t) used by the students and staff of the JNU College of Ocean Science.

The new ship will be built under contract with Korea Maritime System (KMS).

Building of the new ship is expected to cost 40.6 billion won; it will be 100 meter in length, 16 meter in width, maximum speed of 16 knot, and will be capable of navigate up to 16 nautical miles. Loading capacity of the new ship includes up to 120 crew, student trainees and other passengers.

Dean Lee Ki Ho commented that the new ship will provide the trainees with a safe training environment on board.
