Field training center for smart farms established

Jeju National University’s Future Agricultural Management Training Project Group announced that the Smart Farm Startup Incubation and Training Center has been built in the university and will be operated in earnest from May 1.
Jeju National University’s training project was selected in 2019 as a subsidiary of financial support for universities’ agricultural practice sites. In 2021, the university was selected once again to receive state funds from the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Culture Information Service (under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs) as well as local funds from the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
The project is aimed at fostering prospective professional farmers by providing support for the facilities and equipment for advanced agricultural technology education, such as smart farms.
In addition, it is being promoted to subsidize the expansion of such facilities and equipment as educational facilities for young farmers by supporting the incubation of farming start-ups.
Jeju National University was selected after three expert evaluations through a public contest for agricultural and engineering universities across the country. A total of 53 million won has been invested in the facilities and operation, including national and local funds and Jeju National University funds.
“The leaf vegetable cultivation room is equipped with the existing technological complex for the convergence of information and communication and an additional environmental control system,” the project group explained. The same conditions apply to the facilities for mushroom cultivation, edible insect breeding, and a mini green room model. The newly constructed facilities will be used to grow strawberries and special crops so that college students and new and existing local farmers can have access to education on smart farms.
