JNU confers honorary doctorate of engineering on Samsung’s Lee Yoon Woo

Jeju National University conferred an Honorary Doctor of Engineering to Mr. Lee Yoon Woo (69), Advisory Consultant to Samsung Electronics, in a ceremony held in International Affairs Headquarter Hall earlier today (May 22, 2015).

The honorary doctorate is in recognition of Mr. Lee’s leading contributions to the semiconductor industry as well as his special support for the development of JNU engineering program.

In bestowing an honorary doctorate degree upon Mr. Lee, President Huh Hyang Jin lauded his substantial contributions to the economic development of the country, and for his association with the university’s engineering program, especially providing a role model for the students.

The Samsung honoree earned his baccalaureate degree in electronic engineering from Seoul National University, and thereafter joined the company where he worked for 46 years and rose through the ranks to the corporate top position.

For his achievements in semiconductor industry area, he was numerously awarded, including a Robert Noyce Medal, the Golden Tower Industry Order of National Service Merit, and an Electronics Grand Prize (by Korean Society for Electronic Engineering).
