Center for Jejuans in Japan publishes “Memorial Tombstones Built by the Villagers”

Jeju National University Center for Jejuans in Japan (Choi Hyun, Director) published a memorial volume entitled “Tombstones Built by the Villagers,” depicting the tombstones belonging to the Jeju natives who immigrated and lived in Japan.
The tombstone study volume is not only important in terms of its epigraphic significance, but also records the identities of the tombstone owners even in the face of rapidly changing environment surrounding each of the tombstones.
The publication describes the inscriptions on 206 tombstones (among some 800 of them) scattered around the island. The staff commented that future memorial volumes will include descriptions of the remaining tombstones as the study uncovers their identities and inscriptions on them.
