Prof. Kim Eel-hwan appointed as 11th JNU president

Prof. Kim Il-hwan appointed as 11th JNU president 

제주대 제11대 김일환 총장.jpgPresident Moon Jae-in appointed Kim Eel-hwan, a professor of electrical engineering at Jeju National University, as the 11th president of the university.

 

Kim’s term of office is four years until March 3, 2026.

 

In the second round of the 11th presidential candidate election held on Nov. 25, Kim won 387 votes (54.5 percent) out of 710 valid votes.

 

The new JNU president graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in electrical engineering and received his master’s and doctorate degrees from the graduate school of the same university.

 

He joined JNU in 1991 and served as the head of the university’s Information and Communication Institute and the dean of the College of Engineering. He also worked as the chairman of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Energy Committee and the director of Jeju TechnoPark.

 

President Kim made campaign pledges with the vision of “The future created together, a leap toward novelty”, which include △ Cultivating creative and sophisticated talent with future capabilities △ Creating a research ecosystem for sustainable growth △ Creating a happy community for all members △ Creating a future-oriented smart campus △ Practicing rational governance of transparent administration and open communication △ Realizing a university which mutually prospers with the local community △ Escalating prestige as a university that everyone wants to attend and △ Securing a strong financial capability to support the development of the university.
