Environmental Public Health Center to operate Child Birth Cohort

Jeju National University Environmental Public Health Center (Hong Sung Cheol, Director; the organization authorized by the Ministry of Environment) designated Dana Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital (Kim Hyun Seung, Hospital Director) as the Jeju area “Children Environmental Public Health Cohort” hospital at a hanging board formality last Tuesday (July 13, 2015).
Designation of the cohort hospital enables for the center to conduct a 22-year study and survey of infant births and their environmental health risks in Jeju.
The cohort project follows the entire growth period covering pregnancy, infant birth and children’s growth ranging from baby to high school ages through blood, urine and the umbilical cord blood tests as a function of environmental variables, neurological factors, and surveying, etc.
For the project, 50 Jeju area women in maternity will be recruited this year. Up to 150 maternity women will be involved in the 22-year study and survey project.
For the larger scale cohort project covering the period of 2016 through 2019, 500 maternity women/ year and 2000/4 years will be participating in the study. All the tests involved are conducted at no cost to the participants. Women interested in participating may call for information and application at (064-754-3808).
