WISET Center runs Junior High School "Wild Animal Ecology Camp"

Two dozen Jeju junior high girls participated in the 2015 wild animal ecology camp organized by the Jeju National University Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET) Jeju Regional Center (Doh Yang Hee, Director) and Jeju Wild Animal Rescue Center (Yoon Young Min, Director). The three-day camp took place last month (July 27-29, 2015).
Participants of the feral animal eco camp heard a special lecture by Dr. Kim Eun Mi of the National Institute for Forestry Research Institute for Subtropical Forest. She talked about the natural habitats of wild animals, followed by the observations of feral animals and their ecological traits.
The junior high girls participating in the camp activities were particularly impressed with their experience of counting the pulse rate of a roe deer.
The wild animal ecology camp program was supported by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, the National Research Foundation of Korea, and Jeju Autonomous Government to urge for the youths to consider life science and other science and engineering disciplines for their career choices.
After the camp, each participant was asked to write about their experience, and six of them were recognized for their excellent write-ups:
△ Best writing = Kim Hye Young △ Very Good writing = Yang Eun Seo, Ko Yoon Soo △ Good writing = Kim Ji Won, Bhoo Seo Young and Choi Ka Yeon (all of Jeju East Girls Junior High School, sophomore)
