Tamla Culture Research Institute issues "Shaman Suh Soon Shil Elucidated"

Jeju National University Tamla Culture Institute (Kim Don Won, Director) published the fourth issue of Jeju Legends Collection series.

For publishing the latest collective monograph, Professor Huh Nam Choon (Department of Korean Language and Literature) and his colleagues collaborated to produce the results of their studies on the Korea Studies project initiated in 2008 and completed in July 2014.

The collective work was made possible through collaborative studies by the JNU team with the graduate students and faculty members from Gyeonggi, Seoul National and Sungkyunkwan Universities.

The 54 year old Shaman Suh Soon Shil and her knowledge of the traditional shamanism of Jeju Island qualify her as a persuasive elucidator of the quasi religious performances of shamanism. At the present, she is the only known shaman in Jeju without a sustainable trainee or successor.
