Jeju National University Korean Language and Culture Institute (Bae Young Hwan, Director) commemorated the 560th Hangeul Proclamation by sponsoring the 9th All Jeju Province Foreigners’ Korean-Speaking Contest in Jeju Welcome Center Welcome Hall on the King Sejong’s Hunminjungeum (Hangeul ) proclamation anniversary day (October 9, 2015). Thirteen most fluent Korean-speaking contestants were awarded prizes for their performances.

Thirty contestants from fourteen different countries including Japan, China, Cambodia, Nepal, and Russia boasted their fluency in spoken Korean.

The Nepalese S. Kernal won the gold prize on his speaking of “Life in Korea” in the general public division contest, whereas speaking on the same subject the Mongolian J. Sarangblek went away with a gold medal in the student division contest.

There was no Grand Prize winner at this year’s contest when an apparent awardee was found to have won the same category prize in a previous meet and was disqualified of violating the contest rule.
