Professor Choi Kwang-sik Selected the Best R&D Project by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety
The "Safety Management Network Establishment Project for Preemptive Response to Marine Biotoxins," which is being conducted by Choi Kwang-sik, a professor of marine life science at Jeju National University, was selected as the best task in the food sector in the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's selection of excellent research projects for technology research and development in food and medicine in 2022.
Professor Choi is in charge of the project "Building a Marine Biotoxin Safety Management Network" from April 2020 to December 2024 as a research and development project in the field of agricultural, livestock and fisheries safety management by the Korea Food and Drug Administration.
The project aims to establish a preemptive response system for marine biotoxins to deal with climate change and diversification of imported food.
‘‘The ‘Establishing a Marine Biotoxin Safety Management Network’ is a large-scale project involving 137 researchers from 10 organizations, including Jeju National University, Chung-Ang University, Chungnam National University, and Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology. Jeju National University, which is in charge of this project, is conducting research on the safety management of pufferfish poison and shellfish toxicity along the Korean coast.
