On May 28, eleven members of the Jeju Residents' Association in Sendai, Japan—including Chairperson Song Go-sa—visited Jeju National University (JNU) and donated their final scholarship fund of JPY 1 million, expressing their hopes for the continued development of their hometown, Jeju.

Founded in 1975, the Jeju Residents' Association in Sendai celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Over the decades, the association has conducted various activities to support Jeju residents living in Sendai by fostering a sense of community and maintaining strong ties to their hometown through cultural events, networking opportunities, and mutual cooperation. The association has also made consistent contributions to the development of Jeju and worked to maintain a close relationship with the island.

Chairperson Song said, “The association has been disbanded due to operational challenges, such as the aging of the board of directors and a lack of participation from the younger generation. However, we are pleased to donate this scholarship fund to support JNU students, and we sincerely hope for the ongoing prosperity and development of Jeju, even as we come to a close.”
