Tamla  Culture Research Institute hosts 2015 Tri-national Conference of Port Cities

The Jeju National University Tamla Culture Research Institute (Kim Dong Yoon, Director) hosts an international conference (International Conference of 2015 East Asian Port Cities) in the College of Humanities auditorium next week (November 26, 2015).

The conference program features 13 speakers from Japan, Korea and Taiwan who will be discussing the maritime issues and cultural exchanges under the conference theme of “Maritime Cultural Contents.”

Keynote Session: Professor Ko Seok Kyu (Keynote speaker, former President, Mokpo University) “Korean literature related to the development of maritime cultural industry.”

Session speakers:
 △ Professor Huh Nam Choon (Jeju National University; “Maritime culture in the Jeju folk myths”)
 △ Professor Han Sung Woo (Inha University, “Dukjeok Island vernacular and its effect on dialect”)
 △ Professor Hong Jien Long (Taipei University, “Conflict between the Northern Taiwanese and the western religion after the opening of a port in the 19th century”)
 △ Professor Oh Mi Il (Pusan National University; Sports event and folk geography).
 △ Professor Chun Young Joon (Jeju National University, Roof ?tile making in old Jeju)
 △ Professor Ryu Chang Ho (Inha University, Pirates in the Yellow Sea during 15-16 centuries and the governmental  countermeasure)
 △ Professor Tsuji Yamato (Gakushuen University, Japan, Maritime trades between Chosun and Myung Dynasties during 17th century)
 △ Professor Kim Kang Shik (Korea University of Oceanography, Jeju Island drifters in 17~18 centuries).
 △ Professor Park Min Soo (Korea University of Oceanography, Multi-cultural diversity in the western philosophy)
