Agricultural Safety and Public Health Center opens at JNU Hospital

A new Agricultural Safety and Public Health Center (Kim Woo Jung, Director) opened and started its operation at Jeju National University Hospital (Kang Sung Ha, Hospital Director) last Tuesday (November 17, 2015). The opening ceremony was followed by a symposium discussing the aims of the center.
The newly opened center is one of 8 such facilities across the country sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries since 2013. Assemblyman and Chair of the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Kim Woo Nam and other government officials including Jeju Provincial Council President Huh Chang Ok were instrumental in establishing the JNU center.
The center’s goals include investigation and prevention of the agriculture related injuries and help improve the working environment for the farmers and fishermen.
At the opening symposium, Dr. Kang, Hospital Director, observed that an 8-fold rise in the number of new farmers relocated to Jeju happened during the period of 2013 through 2015, posing rapidly challenging public health concerns of the farmers in the region.
