Professor Kim Eui-tae (Microbiology, Department of Microbiology) at College of Medicine JNU was selected as the lead researcher for the ‘2022 Regenerative Medical Clinical Research Foundation Project’ conducted by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute.
This project has been carried out to discover innovative technologies for regenerative medicine and support R&D in accordance with the Act on Safety and Support for Advanced Regenerative Medicine and Advanced Biopharmaceuticals.
Professor Kim Eui-tae plans to conduct a project with the goal of discovering viral materials for the production of cell and gene therapy products and developing production process technology.
Professor Kim said, "This research project is a very challenging study based on pomivirus, which has not yet been widely used.“ He also said, “The entire human race is going through a difficult time due to the COVID-19 virus, but if the virus is used well, it can be a great help in overcoming human diseases.”
Professor Kim emphasized, “Through this research project, we will focus our capabilities so that patients with genetic diseases can benefit from effective and inexpensive high-tech biopharmaceuticals.”
A total of 5 billion KRW will be invested in this research over 5 years. Jeju National University's Industry-Academic Cooperation Group will be organized and Chung-Ang University and CellBion Co., Ltd. will participate in the project.
