Environmental Public Health Center warns cedar pollens as allergy culprit

Jeju National University Environmental Public Health Center issued a seasonal warning this week (March 6, 2016) that everyone be careful in avoiding the pollens of a Japanese cedar.

Cedar trees are often used as windbreak fences around tangerine and citrus orchards in Jeju, and their pollens are known to play havoc with the respiratory health of allergy-sensitive Jeju residents, especially during the period of late January and mid-April, peaking at early March.

Also, pollen flights are most abundant between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., so it’s best to avoid outdoor activities during the period if you are particularly sensitive to the pollen allergy.
