37th Korea-Mongolia Symposium commemorates 740 years of binational diplomacy

Commemorating the 740th anniversary of the diplomatic tie between Mongolia and Korea, the 37th international symposium takes place in the Jeju National University College of Humanities Hall #2 auditorium at 9:00 through 19:00, Saturday, March 26, 2016.

The symposium is jointly organized by the Korean Society for Mongolian Studies, JNU Tamla Culture Research Institute, the Korean University of Foreign Studies Mongolian Study Center and the Jeju Institute for Sharing History and Culture and co-sponsored by Jeju National University, Jeju Cultural Heritage Institute, KIEP (Korea Institute for International Economic Policy), IBK Investment Trust, and the Mongolian Embassy in Korea. The main theme of the program covers diverse topics related to Mongolia, East Asia, and Jeju.

Involvement of Jeju Province in the Mongolia-Korea studies began with the reestablishment of the binational diplomatic tie in March 26, 1990.

The symposium program consists of five sessions featuring an international panel of the experts from Mongolia, Republic of Korea and Jeju National University.

In organizing the symposium, Professors Cho Byung Hak of the Korean Society for Mongolian Studies and Kim Dong Yun of Jeju National University Tamla Culture Research Institute commented that the meeting would be a new start on a long journey for the Mongolian-Korean-Jeju research studies.

The event will be attended by Hon. Baasanjav Ganvold, Mongolian Ambassador and Mongolian Assemblyman B. Baterdene, indicating a wide interest in the binational symposium. There will be a post-symposium Mongolian costumes and fashion show.
