JNU Gene Bank gets funding as core research center
Jeju National University Tropical and Subtropical Gene Bank Center (Kim Jae Hoon, Director) has been selected to receive funding for the multi investigator project “Development and Applications of Subtropical Biological Gene Resources” and its entailed personnel training proposal from the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. The grant establishes the university as one of the core 2016 Science and Engineering institutions. The announcement was made earlier today (May 10, 2016).
The Ministry of Education selected several national universities for targeted support for the science and engineering disciplines through the designated core research centers program.
The JNU core research center, Tropical and Subtropical Gene Bank Center, will get 5.4 billion won/9years for its project.
On receiving the notification of the core grant, Director Kim Jae Hoon commented that the center plans to focus its project mission on training research scientists for the development and applications of subtropical biological resources derived from Jeju’s natural biodiversity.
Professors Ryu Ki Zung, Lee Hyo-Yeon, Kim In Joong, Kim So Mi, Chung Dong Ki,Lee Dong Sun, Kim Min Young, and Unno Datsuo all of the College of Life and Natural Resource Sciences participate in the program. Industrial affiliates for the project include four Jeju corporates, Shihyun Korea, Korea BMI, TNT Research and WithO.
