Prof. Kim Ji-won published a thesis in the internationally renowned journal ‘Cell Reports’

The research paper of Professor Kim Ji-won, the Department of Pharmacy at JJNU, has been published in ‘Cell Reports (IF 9.995)’, a sister journal of ‘Cell’, an internationally renowned academic journal.
The title is ‘Capicua suppresses YAP1 to limit tumorigenesis and maintain drug sensitivity in human cancer’.
Capicua is an evolutionarily well-conserved protein in a variety of human cells. It is known to mediate normal organ growth by inhibiting the transcription of target genes. In addition, its role is being studied in various cancer species as a tumor suppressor factor that inhibits tumor growth and metastasis.
In this paper, Professor Kim confirmed through several types of cancer cells and mouse models that Capicua, a transcriptional repressor (protein that binds to cell DNA and interferes with gene expression), inhibits cancer malignancy, and that to restore anticancer drug sensitivity it also inhibits YAP1 (Yes-associated protein 1), a Hippo-signaling messenger.
Kim said, “Suppression of YAP1 can be a new therapeutic target that can overcome cancer malignancy and anticancer drug resistance caused by Capicua deficiency.”
Professor Kim plans to conduct additional research on Capicua and anticancer drug resistance in the future with this paper.
