Business agreement for semiconductor industry development with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and MetaC&I

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Oh Young-hoon), Jeju National University (President Kim Eel-hwan), and MetaC&I (CEO Jung Min-cheol) signed a business agreement for the development of the semiconductor industry in Jeju.
Under this agreement, Jeju plans to provide administrative and financial support so that MetaC&I Co., Ltd. can make investments in the semiconductor industry, such as the establishment of an R&D center in Jeju and recruit local talents in the future.
Jeju National University will jointly nurture local talent through the development and operation of curriculum in the semiconductor field, and support re-education of human resources in the semiconductor field.
MetaC&I Co., Ltd. relocates its R&D center and headquarters, cooperates in semiconductor business such as hiring local residents, provides field training for students at Jeju National University, and provides scholarships for students in the semiconductor field.
Established in 2018, Metac&I Co., Ltd. is a small and medium-sized system semiconductor company in the metropolitan area. It is a Fabless Company specializing in the design of semiconductor chips mainly used in smartphone displays. Fabless is an industry that specializes in semiconductor design without a manufacturing plant.
Recently, demand for semiconductors is increasing rapidly as a key component of 4th industrial revolution technologies such as 5th generation mobile communication (5G), artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), self-driving cars, and virtual reality platform (metaverse). System semiconductors with information processing functions such as operation and control, rather than memory semiconductors that store data, account for 75% of the global semiconductor market.
Currently, the number one export company in Jeju is a memory semiconductor fabless company. Through this business agreement, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province expects to create high-quality jobs as well as a synergistic effect in fostering a semiconductor ecosystem in the province.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced it will help related companies form clusters and create new ecosystems by changing the constitution of the local economy to preserve clean nature and foster high value-added industries in the future.
